Africa Water and Sanitation Local Authorities Network
  • Sub-Saharan Africa accounts for over a third of the world's 884 million people who still do not get their drinking water from improved sources.
  • Africa has 9% of global freshwater resources, but 15% of the global population.
  • 26% of Africa's population (244 million) has a piped water connection on their premises.
  • Almost 20% of Sub-Saharan Africa relies on a water source that is more than 30 minutes away from the household.

The AWASLA resource platform will act as a centre of excellence providing local governments with an online resource library that aims to encourage research, highlight emerging thematic areas, share experiences and technologies, enhance capacity and access to key documentation for African Local Governments.

Furthermore, the resource library seeks to promote south south exchange of local knowledge and practices between Africa and regions such as South Asia and South East Asia, growing a community of local best practice and facilitating peer to peer engagement.
