  • Almost 20% of Sub-Saharan Africa relies on a water source that is more than 30 minutes away from the household.
  • Africa has 9% of global freshwater resources, but 15% of the global population.
  • 26% of Africa's population (244 million) has a piped water connection on their premises.

SURe Water 4 Africa Advisory Board

The SURe Water 4 Africa: Developing LoCS project is being overseen by a project Advisory Board. The role of the committee is to provide strategic guidance and direction to the SURe Water 4 Africa project and to galvanize action on local water and sanitation issues in the context of climate change, with a specific focus on the SADC region. The committee is composed of select technical, policy and/ or planning experts with proven regional and international experience in the field of urban water, sanitation and climate change adaptation.

The roles of the Advisory Board are as follows:

• Provide strategic guidance and direction to the SURe Water 4 Africa project on emerging

thematic priorities and research areas for urban water and sanitation in Africa as related to

the projected impacts of climate change

• Provide Technical guidance in the review of the 6 SURe Water Frameworks developed for

the implementing project cities

• Avail themselves to sit on a panel as a judge, providing input and comment to the SURe

Water Cost Benefit Analysis competition

• Act as an ambassador of the SURe Water 4 Africa: Developing LoCS project
